Often times I find myself caught up in the tasks of raising three very small boys. I reach the end of the day and wonder if I was truly intentional as a mom. Although I play with my boys hugging and kissing them many times a day I also am distracted by whoever is fussing, needing to eat or drink or changing one of the three adorable tushies still in diapers. This year I decided to challenge myself to plan 100 different activities to do with my boys. These can be small or big activities, but many of them involve items found around the house. I am looking forward to a year of focused play with my boys.
This activity was a little messier than our previous activities, but let me tell you, it was so much fun!
Items Needed:
- Strainer
- String
- Duct Tape
- Glue
- Borax
- Water
- Food Coloring
Take the colander and lace the string through a few holes. Tape the string to the shower walls so that the colander is hanging over the tub.
Slime Recipe
- 2 teaspoons Borax
- 1 1/3 cups water
- Mix borax and water together in a small bowl
- In a separate bowl combine 1 1/2 cups boiling water with 2 cups (4 bottles) glue
- Drop 7-8 drops of food coloring into the water/glue mixture
- Pour the borax/water mixture into the glue/water bowl and stir
- The two mixtures will combine and form a very slimey goo
Pour the green slime into the colander and place your little ones in the tub! The slime was so much fun to squish and squeeze, it feels somewhat solid but still drips through your fingers. Even Mommy had fun with this one!
The first night we attempted this activity I made a mistake and misread the recipe and ended up with goop instead of slime. I was so glad this worked on our second try!
The boys started off really timid. They were not so sure what they thought about green slime dripping down to their heads.
At first they were curious…
And then the slime kept dripping lower and lower….
Noah started looking at me like “ummm…Mom do you see that stuff??”
And then it touched him and he lost it!
So we got them out of the tub and let them sit in Daddy’s lap and ease into the slime at their own pace.
They ended up really liking it and played for about an hour.
The boys also loved scooping up the slime and throwing it against the bathroom wall or tub. The slime would actually bounce off the tub like a bouncy ball. Noah thought it was hilarious.
This was definitely a fun activity! I loved sitting next to the tub and playing with the boys. I’m telling you, this slime is fun for the whole family!
You can actually pick up the slime and put it in the colander over and over again. Our slime took about 5 minutes to completely drain into the tub.
We will definitely be doing this activity again!
*Do not rinse the slime down your drain, it will harden and clog it. The slime is very easy to pick up out of the tub. I placed ours in a plastic bag to use for another time.

Wow – this looks like so much fun!
It was a lot of fun! The boys loved it!
